Microsoft 365 at LSU Shreveport

At the beginning of Fall 2017, LSU Shreveport began offering Microsoft 365 for students, faculty, and staff. This gives students, faculty, and staff the ability to download the full Microsoft 365 software suite for any of their devices. On August 21st, 2017, ITS began synchronizing on-campus credentials with the Microsoft 365 portal. This allows students, faculty, and staff to log into the Microsoft 365 portal with their campus credentials. Please read the following FAQ in its entirety.

What happened to Office 365?

Office 365 was recently renamed to Microsoft 365. It still contains the full suite of applications.

What is included in Microsoft 365?

Microsoft 365 includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Access, Publisher, Outlook, and OneDrive.

I'm faculty or staff. Can I get Microsoft 365 as well?

Yes! The licensing extends to faculty and staff of LSU Shreveport. This will allow you to download and install Microsoft 365 on your personal devices.

Do I need to make an Microsoft365 account?

No. On August 21st, 2017, ITS began synchronizing your on-campus credentials with Microsoft 365. Students can access the Microsoft 365 portal by using their and password (PIN). Faculty or staff can log in with their and passwordFor example, a student with an ID of Z00000001 will use, faculty or staff with the username jdoe will use

So how do I get this for free?

It is pretty easy! Follow these steps:

3. Follow the on-screen instructions to download and install Microsoft 365.

Do I need to make a Microsoft Account to download Microsoft 365?

No. For students, log in with your and password. For faculty or staff, log in with your and password.

What if I already have a Microsoft Account and already have Microsoft 365?

You can continue to use your Microsoft 365 as usual. You can switch to your LSUS account at any time by logging into the portal with your LSUS credentials.

Do I receive anything else from this?

You sure do! Microsoft 365 gives you access to Microsoft OneDrive. OneDrive is a cloud-based storage platform. You can store your files there from one device and access that storage from another device.

What is Microsoft OneDrive?

OneDrive is Microsoft's cloud-based storage platform. It will allow you to save your files to it from any device once you are signed into Microsoft 365. These files will live in the cloud and will allow you to retrieve them from another device. For example, you can save your schoolwork to OneDrive while at home. Once you are on campus, you can retrieve them to print. Through the LSUS Microsoft 365, you get 1TB of storage for free. Please note that the download installs OneDrive for Business. What can I store on Microsoft OneDrive?

This account is meant for school-related activities and thus should only contain school-appropriate content. For example, homework or schoolwork. Additionally, for faculty and staff, please note that your LSUS shared drives are still the preferred place to store work-related documents.

Can I install just the programs I need?

Unfortunately, you have to install the entire software suite. You can remove shortcuts to the programs you do not need after installation.

How many times can I install Microsoft 365?

You have a concurrent install limit of 5 devices. This is across PCs, Macs, and mobile devices. If you want to install it on a 6th device you will have to uninstall it from one of the existing 5.

Please note that Microsoft 365 is to only be installed on devices you own.

Can I share my Microsoft 365?

Microsoft 365 is licensed for use only by eligible students or faculty/staff. 

DO NOT share your Microsoft 365 with other people.

I just bought my own Microsoft 365 program. Do I receive any refund?

Unfortunately, there is no refund offered if you have previously purchased your own copy of Microsoft 365. You can continue using your purchased product, switch over, or use both.

I have my own Microsoft 365, and I want to use Microsoft 365 from LSUS. What will happen?

Microsoft 365 supports personal and school accounts. You will be able to use both.

Is Internet access required for Microsoft 365?

Internet access is required to download and activate Microsoft 365. Once you have Microsoft 365 installed and activated, you can use the application without an Internet connection. Please note, however, that if you do not connect to the Internet at least once every 31 days, your applications will go into reduced functionality mode, which means that you can view or print your documents but cannot edit the documents or create new ones. To reactivate your Microsoft 365 applications, simply reconnect to the Internet.

What happens when I graduate or leave LSUS?

Students are entitled to Microsoft 365 for the duration of their enrollment at LSUS. This includes access to Microsoft 365 applications and OneDrive cloud storage. This entitlement expires after THREE semesters (Fall, Spring, Summer) of non-enrollment. When a Microsoft 365 entitlement expires, access to Microsoft 365 Applications and OneDrive will be revoked. BEFORE this expiration occurs, students are responsible for downloading any files from OneDrive that they wish to keep.
