Office 365 at LSU Shreveport

At the beginning of Fall 2017, LSU Shreveport began offering Office 365 for students, faculty, and staff. This gives students, faculty, and staff the ability to download the full Microsoft Office 365 software suite for any of their devices. On August 21st, 2017, ITS began synchronizing your on campus credentials with the Office 365 portal. This will allow students, faculty, and staff to log into the Microsoft Office 365 portal with their campus credentials. The following is the FAQ, please read it in its entirety.

What is Office 365?

LSU Shreveport is licensed for Microsoft Office on campus, however we are now eligible to offer Office 365. You can get Office 365 for free by logging into the Office 365 portal. This will grant the ability to download the full version of Office 365.


What is included in Office 365?

Office 365 includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Access, Publisher, Outlook, and OneDrive.


I'm faculty or staff, can I get Office 365 as well?

Yes! The licensing extends to faculty and staff of LSU Shreveport. This will allow you to download and install Office 365 on your personally owned devices. DO NOT install Office 365 on your university computers or devices! Those are managed by ITS under a separate licensing system. 


Do I need to make an Office 365 account?

No. On August 21st, 2017, ITS began synchronizing your on campus credentials with Office 365. Students can access the Office 365 portal by using their StudentID@lsus.edu and password(PIN). Faculty or staff can log in with their Username@lsus.edu and passwordFor example, a student with an ID of Z00000001 will use Z00000001@lsus.edu, faculty or staff with the username jdoe will use jdoe@lsus.edu. 

Students DO NOT use your email address.

Faculty/Staff DO NOT use your FirstName.LastName@lsus.edu email address.


So how do I get this for free?

It is pretty easy! Follow these steps:

1. Go to https://login.microsoftonline.com

2. For students, log in with your StudentID@lsus.edu and password(PIN). Faculty or staff, log in with your Username@lsus.edu and password.

3. Follow the on screen instructions to download and install Office 365.


Do I need to make a Microsoft Account to download Office 365?

No. For students, log in with your StudentID@lsus.edu and password. For faculty or staff, log in with your Username@lsus.edu and password.


What if I already have a Microsoft Account and already have Office 365?

You can continue to use your Office 365 as usual. You can switch to your LSUS account at any time by logging into the portal with your LSUS credentials.


Do I receive anything else from this?

You sure do! Office 365 gives you access to Microsoft OneDrive. OneDrive is a cloud based storage platform. You can store your files there from one device and access that storage from another device.


What is Microsoft OneDrive?

OneDrive is Microsoft's cloud based storage platform. It will allow you to save your files to it from any device once you are signed into Office 365. These files will live in the cloud and will allow you to retrieve them from another device. For example, you can save your school work to OneDrive while at home. Once you are on campus you can retrieve them to print. Through the LSUS Office 365 you get 1TB of storage for free. Please note that the download installs OneDrive for Business. You can ignore that and just utilize the regular "Microsoft OneDrive." If it asks for login use you StudentID@lsus.edu or Username@lsus.edu.

What can I store on Microsoft OneDrive?

This account is meant for school related activities and thus should only contain school-appropriate content. For example, homework or schoolwork. Additionally for faculty and staff, please note that your LSUS shared drives are still the preferred place to store work related documents.

Can I install just the programs I need?

Unfortunately you have to install the entire software suite. You can remove shortcuts to the programs you do not need after installation.


How many times can I install Office 365?

You have a concurrent install limit of 5 devices. This is across PCs, Macs, and mobile devices. If you want to install it on a 6th device you will have to uninstall it from one of the existing 5.

Please note that Office 365 is to only be installed on devices you own.


Can I share my Office 365?

Office 365 is licensed for use only by the eligible student or faculty/staff. 

DO NOT share your Office 365 with other people.


I just bought my own Office program, do I receive any refund?

Unfortunately there is no refund offered if you have previously purchased your own copy of Office. You can continue using your purchased product, switch over, or use both.


I have my own Office 365 and I want to use Office 365 from LSUS, what will happen?

Office 365 supports personal and school accounts. You will be able to use both.


Is Internet access required for Office?

Internet access is required to download and activate Office 365. Once you have Office 365 installed and activated, you can use the application without an Internet connection. Please note, however, that if you do not connect to the Internet at least once every 31 days, your applications will go into reduced functionality mode, which means that you can view or print your documents, but cannot edit the documents or create new ones. To reactivate your Office 365 applications, simply reconnect to the Internet.

What happens when I graduate or leave LSUS?

Students are entitled to Office 365 for the duration of their enrollment at LSUS. This includes access to Office applications and OneDrive cloud storage. This entitlement expires after THREE semesters (Fall, Spring, Summer) of non-enrollment. When an Office 365 entitlement expires, access to Office Applications and OneDrive will be revoked. BEFORE this expiration occurs, students are responsible for downloading any files from OneDrive that they wish to keep.
