MFA Setup Walkthrough - START HERE

These steps will vary depending on the device your next login is done from. Below are the steps you will see if your next login is from a PC as well as the steps you will see if you next login is from your mobile device. You can use the table of contents for this article to jump to the section relevant to you.

Setup From My Mobile Device

The following steps walk you through registering a second factor of authentication when you have initiated your login from the mobile device you wish to register as your second factor.

Please follow these steps exactly as they are listed. Deviation from these steps may result in the unsuccessful setup of MFA.

  1. From your mobile device, visit the following URL and log into your LSUS account: lsus.edu/mfasetup
    Students:
Your username is YourStudentID@lsus.edu (example: Z0000000@lsus.edu)
Your password should be your myLSUS PIN.

    Faculty and Staff:
Your username is YourUsername@lsus.edu (example: jdoe@lsus.edu)
Your password is your LSUS Single Sign-On password.

  2. If you are presented with a page that lists your existing security methods (typically a phone number and/or email address), select "Add Method" and then select "Authenticator App" then proceed to step 4.

  3. If you are presented with a prompt stating "More information required," click "Next"

  4. Upon clicking “Next,” you will be presented with a “Keep your account secure” page.

Our recommendation is that you download the Microsoft Authenticator app on the mobile device that you wish to use as your second authentication factor.

If you are going through these prompts from the mobile device you wish to register as your second factor, you can click the "Download now" link to download and install the app.

You can also search for "Microsoft Authenticator" in the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android) from the mobile device you wish to register as your second authentication factor.

After the app is installed, return to the "Keep your account secure" page and click "Next."

  5. If you are going through these prompts from the mobile device you wish to register as your second authentication factor, you can select "Pair your account to the app by clicking this link" and your account will be automatically added to the Microsoft Authenticator app.

  6. Return to the Microsoft Authenticator app and click next. It will then send a push notification to your device to test that it works giving you a two-digit number to match in the authenticator.

  7. Once you have your two-digit number, you can then switch over to the Authenticator app like you usually do and instead of just tapping “Approve,” you will now enter the number and tap “Yes”.

  8. You should see confirmation that the notification was received and went through. Click "Next".

  9. You now will see the "Success!" page. Click Done from here and sign in.
