Welcome To Moodle For Students

Moodle is LSUS' LMS (Learning Managment System) where students will access the online contents of their courses.


Logging into Moodle

Navigate to LSUS Moodle Home Page. You can locate the login button in the top right of the Moodle Home Page. Login using your LSUS SSO (Single Sign-On) credentials. Your username will be [email protected] and Your password is usually your myLSUS PIN. Moodle Dashboard

Once you login you will be taken to the Moodle Dashboard page. This is were you can find your courses in Moodle as well as other resources.


Course Overview

The Course Overview section is where you will find your courses listed and is the main focus of the dashboard page. You can filter the overview section to show All, In Progress, Future, Past, Starred, or Removed From View courses. To access a course just click on the course card and you will be take to the main page of that course. To star or remove a course from view, click on the three dot "Actions" icon on the course card and select from the available options.

Timeline

The Timeline section is below the Course Overview section. This is where you can see your upcoming assignments at a glance for all of your courses. While assignments will show on the Timeline, it is always good to check the course itself to make sure other important items are not missed.


Tutoring and Academic Support

The Turtoring and Academic Support section is where you can find links to various resources intended to help students be successful at LSUS.


Advising

The Advising section is at the bottom of the Dashboard page. Here you can find information about student advising.


Moodle Block Drawer

The Moodle Block Drawer is found on almost ever page in Moodle. This is a side panel on the right that will contain items like Upcoming Events, Calendar, and various academic tools used in some courses. The Block Drawer can be colapsed or expanded. When the drawer is collapsed you will see a gray tab with an arrow icon near the top right corner; clicking on the tab will open the Block Drawer. When the Block Drawer is open, you can collapse it by click on the "X" in the top right of the Block Drawer.


Moodle Course Pages

This is where your course online information and activities will be located. Each Moodle Course Page is setup by the professor, so information and layout can vary from course to course.


Modules/Weeks

Course pages in Moodle are made up of Modules/Weeks. Each Module/Week will contain course information or activities for students. Modules/Weeks are released by your professors as they desire and the course progresses. Modules/Weeks can be expanded or collapsed by click on the arrow icon to the left of each Module/Week title.


Course Index

The Course Index is a left side panel that list and links to the Modules/Weeks as well as the content in them. This can make it easier to find and navigate to items without having to scroll through the entire course page. The Course Index can be expanded and collapsed. To expand, click on the gray tab with a three lined menu icon near the top left of the course page. To collapse the Course Index, click on the "X" on the top left of the Course Index panel.


Course Title/Menu Bar

The course Title/Menu Bar is located at the top of each course. Here you will find menu tabs to navigate different sections of the course.


  • Course - This will take you to the course main page where you can view your Modules/Weeks.
  • Participants - This will take you to the participants page where you can find your classmates and professors.
  • Grades - This will take you to the gradebook where you can see your all of your grades for the course.
  • Competencies - This will show you any competencies setup for the course.
  • Media Gallery - This is where your professor can post relavant videos for each course.
  • More and Open LMS - These items are not traditionally used by students and can often times be blank or not present. LSUS IT will notify students if new features are added to these sections.

Moodle Top Menu Bar

The top menu bar in Moodle is home to various drop down navigation menus for students to access their resources. It is also where you will find notifications, messages, and profile settings. The Moodle top menu bar will be located on all Moodle pages.

  • Moodle Home - Use this to return to the Moodle Home Page.
  • Dashboard - Use this to return to the Moodle Dashboard Page.
  • Student Links - Contains links for Career Services, Counseling Services, Coummunity Standarss, Disability Support, Academic Success Webpage, TimelyCare, and Library Resources.
  • Online Links - Contains links for Proctorio Setup, Proctorio Requirements, Downloaf Proctorio Extension and Proctorio Support.
  • Technical Links - Contains links for Downloading Microsoft 365, Downloading Google Chrome, Email How-To Guides, Wireless How-To Guides, and Message the LSUS IT Department for Help.
  • Web Links - Contains links for the LSUS website, myLSUS, Student Email, Library Resources, and the Bookstore.
  • My Media - Is the home for videos you have uploaded into Moodle. Here you can upload, edit, and publish videos for various assignments and other needs.
  • Notification Bell - This is where you will see Moodle notifications from your courses.
  • Messaging Icon - This is where you will recieve and send Moodle messges to professors and classmates.
  • Brickfrield Guides Icon - This upper and lower case "T" icon is where you will find accessibility guides from Brickfield. They can assist you to use the tools available in your browser and devices to meet your needs.
  • User Profile Icon - This is where your user profile picture will display. The drop down menu allows access to your Profile, Grades, Calendar, Messages, Private Files, Reports, Preferences, and Log Out.
